Bay County, Florida allocates 100% of COVID-19 aid funding by deadline

PANAMA CITY Bay County commissioners were concerned months ago about meeting the Dec. 31 deadline to allocate $30 million from the CARES Act, but they succeeded.
The county didn t get all the COVID-19 pandemic aid money at once. In early July, county officials received the first $7.6 million of the $30 million. They received only a portion of the money then because of a stipulation that only counties with a population of more than 500,000 could receive 100% funding. Bay County falls short of that population mark.
There were conversations among county officials about getting an extension on the deadline, but they were able to allocate all the money before New Year s Eve. After finishing reimbursements with COVID-related spending with the county and local municipalities, they turned to the community for help to allocate the rest of the funds. ....
