Grant County has received a $1.6 million grant toward upgrading the historic M.P. Berry Building, just south of the county courthouse, as the region’s new emergency management center.
Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush has been working to remodel the Berry Building, built in 1959, as the county’s new emergency operations center. The building had served as the county’s former road department building and equipment yard.
Cost for the remodel, Bush said is $398,000, with funds coming from federal and state grants and work expected to be completed in late 2026.

CANYON CITY — A possible tornado may have touched down in the Marysville Lane area outside of Canyon City on Sunday, Nov. 5, according to eyewitnesses and a video shared on Facebook.
Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush nobody was injured but a severe weather event damaged two homes, two sheds and three vehicles.
“We had a severe weather event up in the Marysville area yesterday afternoon,” Bush said. “Nobody got hurt. It severely damaged two residences. One was a manufactured home and one was a travel trailer. Three vehicles were damaged with broken windows.”
