It is expected that the announcement of €2.5million in funding for the refit of the treacherous Rathscannel Road between Abbeydorney and Ballyduff will see the project to completion, in news welcomed by thousands of affected users of the road in North Kerry this week.
The allocation was the single biggest tranche under the near-€30million in funding announced for Kerry s regional and local roads this week.
Fine Gael County Councillor Aoife Thornton, who brought a petition before Ministers Shane Ross and Brendan Griffin in a meeting in Leinster House on the issue, was among the first to welcome the allocation: This issue resulted in the biggest delegation ever brought before the local council as members of the public were given their opportunity to highlight the gravity of the situation on the treacherous stretch.
