Sussex County Board of Commissioners condemn deadly Capitol riot
New Jersey Herald
One week after rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol to protest false claims of election fraud, the all-Republican Sussex County Board of Commissioners condemned the violence that left five dead.
The board s four remaining members voiced their opposition to the Jan. 6 riots that resulted in the death of Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, a New Jersey native, and four civilians.
“The violence on display at our nation’s Capitol building is completely unacceptable, and the loss of life horrifying,” said Commissioner Director Dawn Fantasia. “We cannot condone violent protests, destruction of property, and blatant disregard for the rule of law, and must hold those who commit acts of violence accountable.”
Calls for the removal of President Donald Trump have grown louder in the days since a pro-Trump mob descended on the Capitol, resulting in violent chaos that left five dead. But as House Democrats are expected to bring articles of impeachment against Trump as early as today, the deeply divided country still views basic facts about the riot differently.
While some of the president s supporters interviewed over the past several days said they were left shaken by the attack on the Capitol, others said they don t believe Trump supporters were involved in the rioting and that the president was not to blame for inciting the violence.
