Rob Burke, City Council candidate for Ward 1, filed the suit Friday afternoon.
Burke lost the election, held on May 4, to City Councilmember Bob Garrett 494 votes to 490 votes.
Burke said Monday he wanted to make sure the election process was conducted fairly.
“I feel like there’s some questions about the integrity of the election,” Burke said. “I feel like its right for the people to know if the election was fair and the only way to know that is for a judge to look at it and see if it’s fair or not.”
Jeff Gardner, administrator of elections for Hamblen County, said he had forwarded the suit to County Attorney Chris Capps and could not comment at this time. ....
