MERIDEN — Attorneys representing Meriden and a resident who filed a federal lawsuit against the city, its former police chief and a former police detective alleging First Amendment retaliation, have agreed to settle the matter, according to recent legal filings.
Meriden resident Christopher Dingwell Sr. originally filed the complaint in 2017. It listed as co-defendants former Meriden Police Chief Jeffry Cossette, former union president and police Detective John Williams and the city of Meriden. ....

MERIDEN — The City Council, by nine-to-two votes on three separate resolutions, backed Fire Chief Ken Morgan’s request for a second deputy fire chief position to bolster his department’s administration.
The council, whose members met remotely through video conference Monday night, voted to adopt all three recommendations of its personnel, public safety and finance committees to establish the position, whose salary would be around $110,000. ....
