Rand said he’s against the sale of marijuana in the town of North Elba right now; however, as the board discusses it in the future, he is not ruling out changing his mind. (Enterprise photo â Andy Flynn) LAKE PLACID Suggested alterations to the local land-use code were presented to the North Elba Town Council and Lake Placid Village Board of Trustees during a joint meeting on Friday. The local land-use code hasn’t been substantially reviewed and rewritten since 2011. Dean Dietrich, representing a committee created by lawmakers last May to review the town-village code, outlined a few different ideas for updating the code. The suggestions included: ¯ Allow income-based housing developments to be built taller, up to 45 feet. ¯ Impose standards for lawn signs. ¯ Change the definition of “marina” to mean anyone with more than one docked boat not owned by them. ....

The next day, she was on the job. Breen was recommended by the Lake Placid/North Elba Community Development Commission’s ad hoc Development Director Group, consisting of Community Development Commission Chairman Dean Dietrich, town Councilor Emily Politi, Lake Placid village Mayor Craig Randall, village Trustee Art Devlin, Peter Roland and Kate Thompson. “She is a soon to be graduate of Cornell Institute for Public Affairs (CIPA) with a Master of Public Affairs and a concentration in environmental policy,” Politi wrote in an email Tuesday after the vote. “She starts tomorrow and one of her first tasks will be to write a press release announcing herself.” ....
