Dave Zajac, Record-Journal February 05, 2021 07:36PM By Michael Gagne, Record-Journal staff MERIDEN — The City Council is looking to revive a previously vital city board, which decades ago had been active on issues related to civil rights and discrimination, but has been inactive in recent years.  The Human Rights Advisory Board would have an expanded role under proposed changes before the council, and bear a new name: the “Human Rights, Racial Equity and Social Justice Advisory Board.” Those changes would be voted on as an amendment to chapter six of the Meriden City Code.

Meriden school board will swear in new member next month  Meriden school board will swear in new member next month  Amechi By Michael Gagne, Record-Journal staff MERIDEN — The Board of Education will swear in a new member when it reconvenes next month.  During a meeting held via video conference last week, the City Council voted unanimously to appoint Democrat Sheri Amechi to the seat vacated when Marisol Estrada stepped down earlier this month.  Estrada was appointed to the Board of Education in 2016 to replace Kyle Abercrombie, who stepped down to take a position with the Connecticut School Finance Project, a New Haven-based non-profit organization.
