Santa Clara County Reports 1,067 New Coronavirus Cases, 29 Deaths

There have been 3,095,814 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 35,324 coronavirus-related deaths in California as of Thursday night according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported 1,067 additional coronavirus cases Thursday.
The latest report brings the countywide case count to 95,936.
The county reported 29 additional coronavirus-related fatalities Thursday, bringing its COVID-19 death toll to 1,158.
There were 601 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the county as of Thursday of which 142 were being treated in intensive care units.

Oakland city council extends paid sick leave

The Latinx community in Oakland s Fruitvale district have been disproportionately affected by coronavirus.
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to extend an ordinance providing emergency paid sick leave to some workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The emergency ordinance went into effect immediately and aims to help minimize the spread of the coronavirus.
It is especially relevant to low-wage, frontline workers during the pandemic who may feel compelled to work when they have the coronavirus if they don t have paid sick leave.
The very workers we depend on to navigate this crisis must be able to protect themselves and their families, Councilmembers Dan Kalb and Sheng Thao said in a letter summarizing the ordinance. ....
