CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Just hours after Cincinnati voters passed two anti-corruption issues Tuesday after a series of arrests and scandals rocked City Hall, Councilwoman Betsy Sundemann went to work trying to suspend for one of her colleagues, Wendell Young, following his recent indictment.
Sundermann made her request in a letter Wednesday to Clerk of Council Melissa Autry.
She asked the clerk to put forward a motion to suspend Young. That can happen once the election results will take effect in 10 days when the Hamilton County Board of Elections certifies the primary vote, Sundermann said. ....

After indictment, some call for Wendell Young to resign


In the wake of Cincinnati City Councilman Wendell Young s indictment Thursday on a felony charge of tampering with evidence, two Republican council members are calling on the Democrat to resign so council can focus on city business without distraction.
Republican Councilwoman Betsy Sundermann said:  Council member Young must resign immediately so we can focus on the real issues impacting Cincinnati. . the people of our city deserve much better than this revolving door of corruption.”
Republican Councilwoman Liz Keating said:  Today is another sad day for Cincinnati. While Councilmember Young is entitled to his day in court, I hope he will step down to remove the distractions and mistrust at City Hall in order for Council to move forward with the important work we have in front of us. ....

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Calls began almost immediately for Councilman Wendell Young to step down after his indictment Thursday morning.
Young, 75, a council member since 2010, was indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury on a felony charge of tampering with records in connection with an investigation into text messages he exchanged with four other council members in 2018.
“At some point between January 3, 2018, and October 16, 2018, Young knowingly and with the purpose to defraud, destroyed text messages that belonged to a government entity,” Special Prosecutor Patrick J. Hanley said in a news release. ....
