The idea was put forth by Councilmember Craig Elrod during the Nov. 5 meeting.
The measure subsequently failed in a 4-3 vote at the Nov. 16 meeting.
The proposed Entertainment District would allow for alcoholic beverages to be carried in an open container in designated public places in the city Monday-Saturday from noon to 11 p.m. The district would be from Brian Street to Hood Street and Tarpley Street to Cleveland Street.
Councilmember Sandra Vincent took issue with the initial size and map provided by Elrod which outlined the proposed district.
