Holland resigned on Tuesday, saying she needed to focus on caring for her daughter.
The council’s split was evident on Wednesday when it met to authorize a special election and deadlocked on the selection of Nick Klufas as an interim vice mayor, a motion which ultimately failed on a 2-2 vote.
The City Council did unanimously agree on the process to fill the vacant mayor’s seat, including requiring that mayoral candidates must collect either 497 signatures on petitions or pay $1,140 to qualify to run for the office.
The petitions must be collected between Monday and May 28. The qualifying week runs from noon June 1 through noon June 7.
