Six students at Virginia Commonwealth University were among the 13 people arrested by police Monday evening on VCU’s campus outside the James Branch Cabell Library during an antiwar, pro-Palestine protest and encampment focused on the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Palestine.
What was formerly known as the Lee Circle on Richmond's Monument Avenue was supposed to reopen this past fall, but the space will continue to be closed off to the public until at least springtime.
A spokesperson for the museum, Amy Peck, said it hasn't been involved since December. The move was never widely community to the public, even after the VMFA spent more than $100,000 taxpayer dollars to develop a timeline and plan for the redesign efforts.
