MISSOULA — Citing an opportunity to save money and properly equip the city’s police officers, the Missoula City Council on Monday approved a contract with Axon to purchase 65 new tasers and the gear needed to train in de-escalation.
Chief Jaeson White said the department currently has 14 tasers more than 14 years old and 18 tasers more than a decade old. Given their age, the equipment is obsolete and can no longer be used. ....

MISSOULA — The Missoula City Council on Monday voted to take control of the appraisal of undeveloped land as it pertains to the city’s cash in lieu of parkland requirements.
The move, which passed on a narrow 6-5 vote, gives the city the authority to establish a pool of appraisers from which it will tap to set the value of underdevelopment land before development. ....

MISSOULA — A House bill heard in committee this week would limit local control on alternative nicotine and vapor products, retroactively canceling Missoula’s flavored vape ban passed by the Missoula City Council last November.
House Bill 137, sponsored by Rep. Ron Marshall, R-Hamilton, aims to amend the State of Montana’s Youth Access to Tobacco Act by clarifying that alternative nicotine products are separate from tobacco products.
It would also prevent and stop any regulation on nicotine and vapor products by local governments, health boards and the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services – an agency that attempted to eliminate the sale of flavored e-cigarettes last summer. ....
