Morgan has earned re-election to Lewes Council

Debra Evalds May 7, 2021 Lewes residents have an important choice to make this Saturday in our Lewes City Council election. I strongly believe Councilman Rob Morgan has earned re-election through his service to City of Lewes residents, experience, intelligence, transparency and due diligence in all subjects that come before council. Rob has consistently sided on behalf of the residents of Lewes, especially in development issues. Rob was the sole voice of dissent in questioning the annexation of the Brittingham Parcel on New Road, as he voiced concerns about the annexation zones, pushed forward by ex-council members, that would permit high-density townhomes on the banks of Canary Creek.

Rob Morgan has proven dedication to Lewes

David L. Greer and Dorothy P. Greet April 30, 2021 Councilman Rob Morgan, candidate for re-election to Lewes City Council, has earned our continuing support. On recent issues before the council, Rob has been the sole voice of reason.  For example, Rob has made clear his opposition to the development of the Fourth Street Forest (land under city, not county, jurisdiction, and occasionally under water), and the skyrocketing police budget (cost of souped-up automobiles and additional personnel).  With his election and the election of others of like mind, we may be able to keep our small historic city from becoming the “down-town” center of a vast bedroom community.

Morgan is seeking his fourth term on council, while Jones looks to fill the seat vacated by Deputy Mayor Bonnie Osler, who announced earlier this year she would not seek re-election. The election is set for Saturday, May 8. Carolyn Jones Jones, 79, moved to Lewes in 2008 after spending some time in Dewey Beach and Ocean View. She retired to Delaware following a long career in the Washington, D.C. area.

Lewes council approves purchase of police vehicle

SUV was budgeted, but COVID cutbacks delayed acquisition Nick Roth The Lewes Police Department will soon add a new vehicle to its fleet. Mayor and city council gave the OK to Police Chief Tom Spell Dec. 14 to purchase a new Ford Interceptor. A new vehicle had been budgeted for the current fiscal year, but was put on hold in the spring as the city cut expenses due to the unknown financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. “One of the reasons we suspended this purchase is because we weren’t sure if we were going to be reimbursed for a lot of our COVID expenses,” said City Manager Ann Marie Townshend. “We’ve been told we will be through the CARES Act.”
