This all comes as demonstrators nationwide increasingly use the tactic to pressure an array of public officials, from Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson to Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to Idaho board of health members. “It’s happening all over,” said John Davenport, a philosophy professor and director of peace and justice studies at Fordham University. “It’s a trend in American society to think we can get what we want faster with social pressure.”
