Plans for allotments and community garden in Northallerton


GREEN schemes for a community garden and allotments in Northallerton have been backed by the town council, which is calling on residents to let them know if there is support.
A site for allotments is under consideration around Bankhead Park, but councillors are waiting for stormy weather and rain to see if the site floods. In the meantime they are asking anyone who is interested in having an allotment to get in touch so they can assess how much interest there is.
In the Applegarth and Ashlea Road area, at the western end of the auction mart, a group has approached the town council to look at creating a community garden. Councillors were told this week the collaboration would be between One Planet One Northallerton and Youth Space alongside the town council and potentially the Men’s Shed and The Secret Garden. Members were told the idea is in the formative stages and there would be consultations with residents and reviews of the CCTV. ....

Leah Heyes memorial bench to be unveiled in Northallerton | Darlington and Stockton Times


A MEMORIAL bench marking the life of 15 year old Leah Heyes is to be unveiled in her home town.
The memorial presentation for Leah will take place in the Applegarth Park in Northallerton on Saturday, July 3.
It has been organised by her mum Kerry Roberts, who will be joined by family, friends, and North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Philip Allot to commemorate Leah’s death.
Kerry says she wants the strong message to be conveyed to Leah’s generation that taking drugs can result in tragedy and that what happened to Leah is a reality.
The teenager died in May 2019 after taking two bombs of ecstasy, also known as MDMA, which had been supplied by two local teenagers. She collapsed in the Applegarth park, and desperate attempts were made to save her by paramedics, but she died later in hospital. ....
