Belleville city council will discuss how to fill the late Councillor Pat Culhane’s seat at its meeting Monday afternoon.
Council will see a staff report saying it has two options to fill the vacancy.
One is by appointing someone and the other is to hold a by-election.
An appointment would be a much simpler and much less expensive process than holding a by-election.
Staff estimates the cost of holding a by-election in ward one during pandemic times would be around $200,000. If a by-election is chosen it would be held in either April or May of next year.
