RESIDENTS queued around the block on Saturday to post complaints to Glasgow s council leader about the state of South Side cleansing issues.
Around 40 people lined up on Calder Street to add their voice to a litany of calls for increased cleaning services in Govanhill.
At a demonstration organised by Living Rent’s Govanhill branch and GMB Scotland s City Council branch, locals asked for overflowing bins, rats and flytipping to be dealt with.
Living Rent member Cameron Beattie said: For most of the past year, we have been asked to stay at home.
But in Govanhill many children can’t even play in their backcourt because of the rats and mounds of rubbish. ....

The fact the council tends to only respond once it gets complained about on the app or highlighted on the website confirms it isn’t working.
The city is being left in a mess as the council simply is not doing its job.
It hasn’t been for a long, long time.
Whether that is down to the fact the Scottish Government just doesn’t care about Glasgow or whether Glasgow City Council doesn’t have the budget or whether it simply doesn’t really give a c is not acceptable.

GOVANHILL residents gathered more than 100 bags of rubbish from back courts and streets in the area during a day of action.
Yesterday campaign group Living Rent organised a day of action in the community with a litter pick in the morning followed by a protest outside Queen s Park.
Now the group is calling for a meeting with council bosses to ask for long term solutions to the area s issues with flytipping, litter and pest control.
A GMB cleansing convener said: “GMB trade union alongside Living Rent are calling on Glasgow City Council to introduce a backcourt team in Govanhill. ....
