The Lakeway City Council on Monday voted against a proposal for a mixed-use development on Bee Creek Road that would include workforce housing and restaurant space following concerns from residents that it would not offer the right solutions to the city’s worker shortage.
To speed up the extension of Main Street from the Oaks at Lakeway to Lohmans Crossing, the Lakeway City Council unanimously amended its planned unit development agreement with Oaks developer Stratus Properties, requiring the company begin construction on the road no later than March 15, with a March 15, 2023, completion date. The provision allows the city to take recourse against Stratus if those provisions are not met.
That decision Monday night was made shortly before the council unanimously revised its code of ordinances to clarify the purpose of a PUD and to make it a better district.
The council adopted an ordinance last month giving Stratus a five-month deadline to begin the road’s construction but notification issues caused the item to be brought back on Monday
