State Sen. Jamaal Bailey stepped up to the microphone, entirely surrounded by women, at the July 13 City Hall Park press conference celebrating the 29 women who won their Democratic primaries for the City Council. Eight women spoke before him and 10 after him. Bailey was the only man who spoke. Women are expected to be a majority of the 51-member council for the first time in its history. So Bailey had to clear something up.

New York City Council Member Mark Levine, who represents District 7, was made for the coronavirus moment. Dubbed “the Anthony Fauci of the New York City Council” by then-Council Member Ritchie Torres, Levine became an unlikely high-profile pandemic leader, advocating for policies like the closing of restaurants and bars, and the release of racial disparity data on the impact of the pandemic. He recovered from COVID-19, clashed publicly with the mayor on coronavirus policies and is now spreading awareness of vaccine appointment availability on Twitter, recently endorsing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

As New York City enters a new phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, an unprecedented array of economic devastation trails in its wake. In the West Bronx, looming damage can be seen in the large number of eviction filings, not executed and on hold thanks to a state-issued moratorium.
Even as lawmakers work to extend the moratorium, eviction filings persist. And they’re most prevalent within the Bronx’s 14th City Council District, according to a March report by the Association for Neighborhood and Housing Development [ANHD]. The housing think tank found 40,000 eviction proceedings initiated in New York since March 2020, with the bulk concentrated in the Bronx.
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and the New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced today the closing of Twin Parks Terrace, a 182-units affordable housing development in the Bronx on NYCHA-owned land.
Construction is anticipated to start in January 2021.
Twin Parks Terrace is a new construction project which will consist of 181 affordable rental units and one superintendent unit on Webster Avenue between East 183rd Street and East 184th Street in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx.
The project site is currently a parking lot adjacent to the Twin Parks West Houses development, which underwent a conversion in 2018 through NYCHA’s Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) program.
