Nearly 466 million people worldwide are estimated to be living with hearing loss, according to the World Health Organization. The WHO also predicts this number to climb to 900 million by 2050.
To raise awareness about global hearing loss and the importance of hearing health care, the WHO has designated March 3 as World Hearing Day.
“Hearing loss is a complex condition and has a variety of causes - exposure to hazardous noise, genetic conditions, or complication of other diseases such as measles and mumps,” Dr. Theresa Schulz, prevention division chief for the Department of Defense Hearing Center of Excellence, a division within the Defense Health Agency’s Research and Development Directorate, said. ....

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), in partnership with the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA) and the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC), have the honor of announcing this week the winner of the 2021 Safe-in-Sound Excellence in Hearing Loss Prevention Award™.
This year s award for innovation in hearing loss prevention goes to Vertical Lift, AH-64 Apache Helicopter of the Boeing Company in Mesa, Arizona. The award will be presented live on February 26, 2021 at 3pm EST as part of the 45th annual NHCA conferenceexternal icon happening virtually for the first time this year.
