365 days til 2022 bin collections changes

Date Time 365 days til 2022 bin collections changes We’re asking for community feedback on changes to bin collection schedules in July 2022 well in advance to allow plenty of time to get ready. 365 days from today to be precise! From July 2022, general waste bins will be emptied fortnightly and food and green waste bins will be emptied weekly. We’re making the change so we can continue to reduce the environmental impact of our waste as well as safeguard our community from future cost increases to dispose of waste in landfill.

Bayside now diverting 60% of waste from landfill

Date Time Bayside now diverting 60% of waste from landfill In November last year, we conducted a general waste audit of randomly selected bins from across Bayside. Since launching our food & green waste service in July 2019, our landfill diversion rate (the percentage of waste no longer going to landfill) has increased from 49% to 60%. This is a great outcome but there’s still work to do! Our recent audit highlighted two key problems: Food waste unfortunately still makes up a whopping 36% of the garbage bin. While this number was closer to 50% before we launched food and green waste, we can still do better!
