Swindon must still make case for £19.5m for regeneration projects


Restoration of the Health Hydro small pool is one of the regeneration projects
The £19.5m allocated by central government to Swindon from its Towns Fund hasn t actually arrived yet.
Labour councillor Janine Howarth questioned the Conservative leader David Renard about the progress of the council s bid for the money.
She cited several reports where members of cabinet talked about the award by the government and what it was going to be used for.
She added: It s the case that we still have to make the business case for the projects and we haven t actually got the money.
Coun Renard said the governmnet had agreed to fund six different regeneration projects, which will add up to £19.5 if the business cases are approved, and that the Towns Fund Board is working on those cases. ....

Council puts plans to buy back Cavendish Square on hold due to Covid-19


CAVENDISH Square will not be bought back from private owners by the council in the near future.
Campaigners had been calling on Swindon Borough Council to take control of the concrete eyesore in Park South, having surrendered it more than a decade ago, but the Covid pandemic has put plans on hold indefinitely.
Council leader David Renard said the authority might return to the idea when economic circumstances change – although one campaigner says this would be a good time to renegotiate a better price.
Coun Renard told Labour councillor for Liden, Eldene and Park South, Janine Howarth the council was on the verge of buying the square back from landlords Lytton Road Ltd at the beginning of 2020, before coronavirus struck. ....
