This coming Monday marks 60 years since the first human being left the Earth and reached space, and 40 years since the first space shuttle launch.
On April 12, 1961, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space, riding the Vostok 1 spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in southern Kazakhstan.
