If we want the deep emissions cuts that are needed, we must insist on policies that take a more holistic view of emissions on a national scale. My experience as an energy modeler, researcher and engineering professor have taught me that this kind of approach will not only lower emissions more quickly, but at a lower cost. One policy that takes a more comprehensive approach is a revenue neutral tax on all greenhouse gas emissions. Not only will this quickly incentivize people and organizations to lower their emissions, it will do so while addressing the economic needs of the American people if the revenue generated from the carbon tax is paid directly back to Americans in the form of a dividend. Recent studies from REMI and Columbia University have confirmed that this type of policy will both lower emissions and boost the economy. ....
