'Over Rs3bn Covid fund consumed in transparent manner' - Newspaper


KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday announced that more than Rs3 billion of the Coronavirus Emergency Fund (CEF) that had been set up by the provincial administration in March 2020 had been consumed.
This emerged at the CEF committee meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah and attended by its members, Indus Hospital chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Abdul Bari, Faisal Edhi of the Edhi Foundation and senior officials of the health and other relevant departments.
“The CEF collected Rs3.68 billion,” said a statement issued by the chief secretary office after the meeting. “Through these funds isolation centres were set up and medical equipment and medicines procured. The funds were spent in a transparent manner which was audited by an independent auditor.” ....

The Sindh finance department informed a meeting of the provincial Coronavirus Emergency Fund (CEF) on Monday that thus far over Rs3.68 billion have been collected for the CEF.
Heading the meeting, the provincial chief secretary, Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, said that the Sindh government had set up the CEF in March 2020. The funds raised were used to establish the Field Isolation Center and arranging Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), protective kits, ventilators and medicines, he said.
Shah further said that the chief minister will be informed of the details regarding the funds collected and subsequent expenditure through a summary. Separately, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said on Monday that he has written to the federal government and sought permission to purchase the coronavirus vaccine directly from Chin ....

In fact, some groups have massaged their missions in order to help those who have felt the economic impact of the coronavirus.
One such organization is Grow It Green Morristown, which works to create sustainable farms and gardens, and educate communities on healthy eating and environmental stewardship.
Lisa Alexander, executive director of the nonprofit said, “In 2020, determined to serve, Grow It Green modified programs and focused resources to meet the needs of our community in crisis.
