Norwich  When he filed a three-part complaint with city police in May 2018, resident Teairez Stennis Atunbi told police he grew up in East St. Louis amid repeated incidents of police racial profiling.
Atunbi, formerly Stennis before he changed his name in July, called East St. Louis “a real warzone” in his written complaints, but after being pulled over by Norwich police several times, he said he might have felt safer there.
“Since moving to Norwich, I’ve been pulled over repeatedly for what seems to be suspicion,” he wrote.
The complaints began on May 13, 2018, when officer Michael Lax was parked in a spot to observe activity in the McDonald’s Restaurant parking lot in Norwichtown. Atunbi was parked there in a Cadillac Escalade and a friend arrived in a Toyota. After a few minutes, the Toyota pulled out. Lax followed the vehicle and pulled over the female driver for speeding. ....
