The Corbin High School Cheerleaders finished fifth at the state cheerleading competition. The Redhounds competed in the all-girls medium division, earning a score of 81.30. In 2021, Corbin finished fourth at nationals, and first in the region before competing at state.

In a season that almost wasn’t, the Corbin High School Cheerleaders have been on a big run, finishing fourth at the national cheerleading competition in Orlando, Florida and winning the region and qualifying to compete at the state cheerleading competition May 13 and 14.
In an interview in December, Coach Shonya O’Neill said it was a waiting game for her squad which was continuing to practice as it awaited word of if or when there would be a state or national competition in 2021.
“COVID will determine so much for our competition,” O’Neill said during that interview noting that the squad continued to practice as if they were in the competition to prepare not only the physical elements, but the mental as well.
Little princesses will have the opportunity to party with Corbin High School Cheerleaders during the team’s annual Princess Party on May 8 at Corbin Primary School.
“When the babies come in and see the [cheerleader] princesses all in their costumes, Disney World magic comes to Corbin,” said Corbin High School Cheerleading Coach Shonya O’Neill. “Their eyes light up and they are mesmerized by them.”
The event this year will be a little different. Makeovers will not be included.
“We won’t be able to have the individual makeovers, but make no mistake, it will be just as magical as always,” said O’Neill.
