Not just in space. yeah. there s psych support stuff on the station. we have a keyboard. we re just people up there, too, t.j. who knew. most of our i assume most people saw the movie gravity in theaters than actually watched this whole spacewalk yesterday. how important is it for people to see these spacewalks. it looked so easy. to really understand just what s at stake and how difficult it is and some of the work that s going on up there. yeah. we only go out on spacewalks for absolute necessities. the level of danger is much, much higher, of course, than being inside the spaceship. in this case, on the international space station, one of the main cooling loops has sort of failed where we can t use it. so we need to swap out a thing about the size of a refrigerator. they did a great job on the spacewalk yesterday. they got way ahead of the game. hopefully we ll be able to get everything done in just one more spacewalk. but it is physical. it s like working out steadily ....
This mission is to replace one of two cooling loops that failed on the station, forcing the crew to conserve power. if they lose the second cooling loop, they would have to abandon the station. they have done this kind of work before. this would be the first spacewalk since an astronaut nearly drowned in his helmet last july. at 230 miles above the earth, recritical component on the station. there is an ammonia risk whenever replacing these cooling loops. the job, replace the bad pump with a spare. doug was the last astronaut to work on the pump in 2010. this week he recorded a video showing the space station crew how to go about the repair mission. our advice to them and the crew agreed, we re going to go slow, methodical, step by step, challenge response. with their space suits ....
Thanks so much for joining us bright and early. my pleasure. here on terre firma. explain how this led to a problem with the astronaut almost drowning. the cooling pump, they have two cooling loops. one of the loops, the pump is not working. they have to replace the whole unit. they tried to do work-arounds but nothing seemed to get them happy with what s going on. the last time we did a space walk a few months ago, an italian astronaut had a problem with his space suit. had a problem. there was water coming in around his head. there was a leak. we never had this happen before. so nasa of course is very concerned about this. and they replaced this fan pump assembly that they think created the problem. that s where the problem ....
