Mary Helen Mitchell, 89, died March 16, 2023, at North River Health Campus in Evansville, Indiana. She was born on June 16, 1933, in Marion, Kentucky, the daughter of John Hester Gass and Edna (Morgan) Gass and younger sister of Charles Gass. She met and married (only a month later) the one and only love of her life, George Noble Mitchell, at age 40, on March 28, 1974. Mary Helen's life was devoted to caring for those who were closest to her, whether by blood or through marriage. In many ways, her life could be divided into 2 main parts: before marriage and after. She was born and raised until age 10 in Marion, Kentucky, surrounded by her beloved family and several special aunts who were especially close to her after her Mother became a widow when Mary Helen was a very young toddler. This is when she acquired the Gass family nickname of "Francis" which no one could really trace beyond her older brother's antics. At age 10, during the height of WWII, her mother moved ....

Roger K. Hubele – Carmi

Roger K. Hubele, a White County farmer, age 83, died Sunday, January 8, 2023, at his home with his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ranelle (Summers), a son JR, a daughter Suzy (Bryan) Tomm, grandsons Braden Tomm and Brett Tomm, and two sisters-in-law Rebecca (Murphy) Hubele, Marty (Summers) Smith and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Neva (Thompson) Hubele and brother Ralph. Roger graduated Carmi Township High School, served in the US Army Reserves, and received a BS in Agronomy from the University of Illinois and a MS in Agriculture Economics from Purdue University. Roger was employed by the University of Illinois Extension Service Farm Business Farm Management and worked part-time as an agriculture loan officer at Gallatin County State Bank in Ridgway, Illinois, before engaging in full-time farming. Sharon R. Benedict, 81, of Grayville, Illinois, died Monday, February 7, 2022, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. She was born December 7, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Carson and Mary (Wise) Johnson. Sharon was an active member of the First Christian Church in Grayville where she used her talent playing the piano. She was an accomplished pianist and was a graduate of Johnson Bible College with a degree in music, majoring in voice. She and her sister, Pam, sang on various worship programs on Evansville TV channel 7. Her work experience includes Groff Memorial Library and Meadowood Nursing Home. She is survived by her brother-in-law, William Pieper of Sandborn, Indiana; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation and funeral are Friday, February 8, 2022, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville. Visitation is at 10 am and funeral is at 12 noon. There will be no graveside committal service. William Franklin Lamont

William Franklin Lamont, 85, traded in his fields ready for harvest on Earth for fields of gold in Heaven on October 1st, 2021. "Bill" was born on September 6, 1936 at his family's old home place in Shortville (later called Centerville, IL.) The son of Kenneth Hanks and Hattie (Thread) Lamont, Bill was the eldest of their three children. His sisters Karen Davis (Newburgh, IN) and Margie Clark (Jim) (Carmi), who always adoringly referred to their older brother as William, survive. After attending school at Shortville through the 7th grade, Bill attended Grayville High School. It was there he met his future wife of 66 years, classmate Carol Jean Webb. After graduation, Bill enrolled at the University of Illinois-Champaign where he would later graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science with a minor in Agriculture.
