Florida erlebt auf einem Küstenstreifen von rund 250 Kilometern Länge eine Naturkatastrophe. Hunderte Tonnen toter Fische, Krabben und Meeresschildkröten werden angeschwemmt. Grund für das Massensterben ist eine giftige Alge, die außer Kontrolle geraten ist.

Tag für Tag fliegt ein Reporter des örtlichen Fernsehsenders im Hubschrauber über die Küste Floridas. Unter ihm: das Meer, stellenweise rötlich verfärbt, und tote Fische. Hunderte Tonnen toter Fische, angeschwemmt am Strand.
Was wir hier sehen , erzählt er, sind Bagger und Räumfahrzeuge, die die Kadavermassen in große Container kippen. Dazu zeigt die Helikopterkamera kleine Menschen, die mit Rechen versuchen, den schneeweißen Sand vorzeigbar für Besucher zu machen. ....
