salman yesterday parroting the saudi s spin that rogue killers might be responsible. we are three weeks before the midterm elections and the 2020 presidential campaign is already in politicians sights. president trump has raised more than $100 million for his reelection campaign and he is already tangling with one potential rival, senator elizabeth warren. the president falsely claims he did not pledge to pay $1 million to senator warren to her favorite charity if she took a dna test to prove her american indian heritage, but he did make that promise at a rally in july. we will begin our coverage live in riyadh with all of the breaking news. what are the latest developments, sam? reporter: the developments are coming out of istanbul immediately, which is that diplomatic sources tell cnn that the turks are now going to extend their search into the consul s residence not very far from the consulate itself, where
but they re not providing any sort of cctv evidence to prove what it is that they re saying. the turks are trying to go through images that they have access to, but they really don t have, at least as far as we know, eyes inside the consulate itself, which is leading to all sorts of speculations and theories as to what may have actually befallen jamal khashoggi and then there s, of course, this case of 15 saudi nationals which according to a police report released to state-run news agency, that they arrived the same day that khashoggi went missing, were in the consulate around the same time and since then are believed to have departed the country. so there s a lot of questions being asked right now and according to turkey at the very least and so many others watching this, the saudis not really doing a lot to try to push speculation off them and on to anyone or anything else. and turkish sources, i mean, believe that he may have been murdered inside the consulate. he had gone there f
essentially. they just went away. a couple things we do know, libyan security is major interest in the country. if you ask the libyan people one top concern would be security. the host country security, which we used to have to protect the u.s. property, embassy and consulate in libya is not effective. that is number one. number two, at the consulate there were no marines to provide internal security. they re at the embassy. at the consulate itself, normally i think we would have diplomatic service, security details to protect it. i don t know if they were present. this much we do know, just by looking at the pictures, the people in that consulate were in a firefight using military terms, outgunned, out armed and numbers truly make a difference in a fight like that. despite people who may have a lot of skill, if your opponent has time, ammunition and considerably more weapons that is probably going to move in their favor. that s probably what happened here.
