how military kids are being paid back with fun in the sun in maryland this weekend, but they will be dealing with major heat along with humidity. it is already quite warm outside. will we see more dangerous temperatures today? good morning gwen. it s going to be another day melanie where the challenge will be to try to stay cool. let s take a look at what we did temperature wise yesterday. we broke record at all three airports. 101 at national and airport, 99 at dulles. these records setback from 23 years ago in 1987. right now at national airport, 79 degrees. humidity is up at 74%. so it s another day we ll have to deal with that. a very light northerly wind, that will soon change and some neighborhood temperatures ranging into the upper to mid-80s in some areas even. and we re going to continue to see that as the day and the morning does continue to wear on. and we d have a chance of storms this afternoon. we re keeping a close eye on a frontal system headed our way. our hi
temperatures are heading next and jennifer davis. gwen, let s start with you in the weather center. it s another scorcher. it s the fourth time the temperatures cracked the 100 degree mark. we broke records at all three airports. 101 at national, 99 degrees at dulles and 100 degrees at baltimore airport. these are records that were set in place 23 years ago in 1987. the record was 96 degrees for national at that point, so we really made a big impact into the course of today. here s how hot it felt in some of our neighborhoods. the heat in dc is 120 in fredricksburg, virginia, and 103 in martinsburg. it s still very warm outside, current temperatures in the 80s and low 90s pretty much everywhere. another warm day tomorrow, not quite as hot as it was today, but because of the fact that the heat inecesdeces will reach 108. i ll have more on what to expect a little bit later. gwen, thank you. how was this oppressive heat affecting folks around our region? fox 5 s jennifer dav
think in parts of the area it will be back with a vengeance later today as we have the possibility of more storminess and some of the storms could be on the strong side. there is your morning satellite- radar and kind after mix of sun and clouds as we get out the door this morning. probably a little sunshine and it will give way to clouds this afternoon. and then the possibility that we could see some thunderstorms. no real change in the air mass any time soon. if anything, we are only going to get warmer from here as we ve got this big bubble of heat out to the west that will be moving in towards the end of the week. early sunshine, i mentioned the possibility of clouds and the thunderstorms. one degree warm he than yesterday. we ll get a bit of a break tomorrow. and then the heat arrives for the end of the week. the air conditioner in my car chose the wrong time to poop out on me. it has a tendency to do that. i m sorry. before we get to traffic. we have breaking news
what is the motive. if police know, they are not saying. i use the term zero criminal. did he additional crimes beyond murder. this is an individual that by the time you actual find out what he is about, you will find he is one of the most famous criminals these investigators are responsible in identifying. reporter: law enforcement says the man is a suspect in the murder of wilma butler shot to death in june of 2008 inside her home. the killer set the house on fire. today there is nothing left but a vacant lot. the man under investigation lab locked up on has been locked up on federal charges. the chief says the man worked hard at covering his tracks, deliberately trying to throw off the police and puddling investigators. they hope for an indictment next week. i m curious, we have heard them use adjectives to describe the man. is there a reason they are not naming him yet. not until he is charged. that s basically how they are handling it. sources indicated what hi
