COVID-19 concerns led lawyers to seek a delay in CMEEC trial


The principals involved in the planned corruption trial of five former Connecticut Municipal Energy Cooperative officials are asking the proceedings be pushed back again until November, recent federal court documents show.
In a joint motion filed in U.S. District Court in New Haven on Thursday, federal prosecutors and lawyers for the defendants said they have “mutually agreed” to request another continuance for jury selection in the case.
Attorneys on both sides of the case cited the challenges in attempting to begin a trial amid the COVID-19 pandemic in their motion. The motion came on the heels of a Jan. 19 court order asking both sets of counsel to continue an ongoing dialogue on the trial date issue. ....
