CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. â The Rensselaer County Chamber of Commerce hosted a virtual conversation with Congressmen Paul Tonko and Antonio Delgado.
The congressmen, who represent New York s twentieth and nineteenth congressional districts, respectively, discussed an array of topics Wednesday morning. Among those issues was the recent announcement regarding New York s projected loss of one congressional seat, responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, and rebuilding the economy and infrastructure.
Both lamented on the 2020 U.S. Census count and what it will mean for New York s representation.

Local and county governments in New York stand to gain billions under the $1.9 trillion federal stimulus package approved by the U.S. Senate over the weekend.
With the House taking the measure up Monday, the package could be forwarded later this week to President Joe Biden, who has made the massive spending plan a priority.
Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., estimated the impact on New York state at around $100 billion. As previously reported, the direct benefit to state government is $12.5 billion.

Currently, federal statute prohibits any form of federal health coverage for incarcerated individuals except under very limited circumstances. In most states, Medicaid coverage is immediately terminated when someone is sent to a correctional setting. This creates a serious coverage gap when individuals are released, as they often have no access to health care or addiction treatment during a stressful and dangerous time. This bill is a bipartisan response to this issue, following alarming evidence published in the New England Journal of Medicine that individuals reentering society are
129 times likelier than the general population to die of a drug overdose during the first two weeks after release.
