First-time Council Candidates Beat Elected Politicians |

t’s official! The San Diego City Council will have three new members when they are sworn in on Monday, December 10.
The three candidates, all women, also share another thing in common; they were each running for office for the first time and they each beat an elected official.
The San Diego County Registrar of Voters finalized its vote count on Thursday afternoon. On Election Day, 490,000 ballots were still left to be counted and it took the Registrar nearly a month to complete the count.
In District 2, Dr. Jennifer Campbell, a family medicine doctor for over 37 years, received more votes that incumbent Councilwoman Lori Zapf, and ended up winning by nearly 9,000 votes. Zapf is serving her second term on the City Council. ....

Trump Signs Executive Order Ending Family Separations, Fear and Confusion Remains

After a firestorm of criticism, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to end the policy forcing the separation of children from their parents when entering the United States border without proper documentation.
The executive order does not end the zero tolerance policy, which means anyone caught entering the U.S. illegally will still be criminally prosecuted.
Despite this, the fear that families may not be reunited remains as well as confusion on how the reunification process between parents and their children will work and when it will begin. There is no established system to return children to their parents, and both are separated into completely different federal departments. ....

DA Expected to Testify in Illegal Campaign Contribution Case |

San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has been subpoenaed to testify at the trial of Mexican businessman Jose Susumo Azano Matsura, who is facing federal charges of illegal contributions into San Diego mayoral campaigns, including for Dumanis’ run in 2012, as well as for former San Diego Mayor Bob Filner.
Azano Matsura’s defense lawyer, Michael Wynne, has confirmed that subpoenas to testify in the trial, have been issued for Dumanis and  Filner, as well as for Congressman Juan Vargas,
and local developer Doug Manchester.
“I don’t know if the subpoenas have been served but they have been issued,” Wynne said after court this Wednesday, August 10. ....

SD Congressman Juan Vargas Says He Supports Impeaching President Trump |

San Diego Congressman Juan Vargas held a press conference to voice his support for Congress to impeach Donald Trump even though the President has only 11 days left in office.
Speaking in downtown San Diego after returning from Washington, D.C., Congressman Vargas said Trump “is dangerous, he needs to be removed from office.”
“What did he do? He had one branch of government attack another branch of government,” Vargas said of Trump’s calls for his supporters to march on the Capitol Building while Congress was in a Joint Session to vote on accepting the Electoral votes from the 50 states to certify the presidential election where Joe Biden won. ....
