Loebsack ready to move on after 14 years in U.S. House

Congressman Dave Loebsack cast his last votes as a member of the U.S. House this past Monday.
“A little bit of sadness, but a lot more relief, happiness, ready to move on, do other things, take a break for sure to begin with,” Loebsack said Wednesday, “and then we’ll see where I go from there.”
Loebsack, a Democrat who turned 68 on December 23rd, did not seek reelection in 2020. Loebsack was a Cornell College professor when he was first elected to the U.S. House in 2006. In 2012, Loebsack moved to Iowa City to run in the newly-drawn second congressional district. This past February, Loebsack and his wife, who’s a retired second grade teacher, moved back to Mount Vernon. ....

Axne, Finkenauer, Loebsack cast votes on veto override, $2,000 stimulus checks

The three Democrats representing Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives have voted to override President Trump’s veto of a major military spending bill, but they’ve also on record now in support of Trump’s call to send $2000 stimulus checks to most Americans.
The U.S. House took votes late Monday on the both issues. Democratic Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer of Cedar Rapids tweeted that she was happy to vote for the addition stimulus spending Trump supports, while also voting to override his veto “costing military service members their pay.” ....
