Campaigns must file responses to decide next steps in 2nd District election

The congressional committee tasked with adjudicating Iowa’s still-unsettled 2nd District election is giving both campaigns until March 29 to file written responses to a series of questions intended to govern its next steps.
Committee Chair U.S. Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., postponed a vote on Miller-Meeks’ motion to dismiss Hart s election challenge last week. And she has directed lawyers representing each campaign to answer written questions laying out their cases before the end of the month.
“Both parties views will help inform how this committee can best render its quote independent final judgment unquote about which candidate won the election and is entitled to this House seat,” Lofgren said during the committee meeting. ....

Presidential race: Miller-Meeks mum on call for House investigation

While Joe Biden led in both the electoral college and the popular vote, President Donald Trump has sought to throw out legally cast ballots in multiple states. His effort has been rejected by the Supreme Court and, with Monday s electoral college vote, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell congratulated President-elect Biden on his victory. But after waiting weeks to acknowledge the certified results of 50 states, McConnell and his effort to end his party s attempts to cast doubt on the election didn t work.
This week, 23 of the 45 incoming Republican representatives called on leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives to launch an investigation into the 2020 presidential election. Led by Reps.-elect Kat Cammack of Florida s 3rd District and Michelle Fishbach of Minnesota s 7th District, the Republicans of the 117th Congress freshman class called on the House to investigate irregularities. ....
