Goes forward, will the congress u. S. Congress have any role any further role in this Agreement Number one . Number two can any president alter this agreement or refuse to abide by it in the future . Well, congress will always have a role, obviously, and youve made that Crystal Clear in the context of what were doing here now. So, yes, there will be an ongoing role with respect to the enforcement, the implementation, our do we have to vote on anything . Afterwards . To repeal sanctions or ultimately, yes. Ultimately the iran sanctions act itself. There is the lifting of sanctions. Ultimately you would have to vote. If we dont do that pursuant to the agreement are there any penalties on our part . Actually, iran is fry to break the agreement because we will have broken it and then all bets are off in terms of compliance. Can a future president refuse to abide by the agreement ....
The region and that is worrisome obviously. In your opinion, do you believe that if we acted in a unilateral manner to impose new sanctions or reimpose existing sanctions, not based on breaking the nuclear dual but based on other activities that we could impose sanctions in the area. Congressman, we believe that the acts on terrorism and destabilization are an area of concern. We have been putting sanctions in place. We reserve the right to put parts delisted on the list again if they are violating terrorism or destabilization provisions. I think that we have powerful tools and i think the world knows we mean to use them and i believe our credibility in doing it has to be for real. We have to be listing people for reasons of terrorism and regional destabilize is. And you feel we have the tools. We definitely have powerful tools. I will yield back the remainder of my time. Thank you. We go to geoff duncan of South Carolina. Thank y ....
Pardon me . My hard pains for congressman, what you need to think about is our security. We are better off with iran not having a Nuclear Weapon. No question. Our primary objective here was to have a negotiation because they were already at 19,000 centrifuge already with enough material for 10 to 12 bomdz, already enriching at 20 and they were a step away from a plutonium react thats true could produce enough material for one to two bombs a year. How we stepped into that. I get that. And we rolled that back. You said that. How long before we knew about fordau. We discovered it. We blew the whistle. How long was it there before we discovered it. I dont know a precise amount of time. Ten years . But congressman, we discovered that and we also im sorry, you let me just say, in 2003 we discovered they were actually trying to make a bomb and we did it without inspectors, without this regime. Youve said all that. This is about the trust ....
Do you believe this accurately reflect the government goals . Yes or no. I believe it accurately reflects some peoples attitudes, but i dont know if it is possible for iran to do that. I think israel has enormous capacity, obviously. I didnt ask for all that. I just ask if you have a judgment. It is not an implementable policy by iran. Less than two weeks their code weeks ago the ayatollah letter rallied it was legally consummated by chance of death to america and death to israel. Do you believe that was frequently punctuated by chance chants of death to america. I see no evidence that they have a policy that is able to think that against us. Iran is the worlds foremost sponsor of terrorism, do you believe that . Yes. And they will use the weapons made available to kill americans and israelis . They may, and we have as you note as you know responded to that since 1979. We have put sanctions in place specifically because of their support for terror. I understand that. You answered my qu ....
The Senate SenateForeign Relations committee is chaired by senator bob corker. Todays hearing is the third in a series of hearing we are holding to evaluate the Nuclear Agreement reached between iran and six world powers. We erd about evaluating the agreement as a whole and todays hearing gives us an opportunity to look at one of the key aspects of the agreement. Sanction relief. Next week we will hear from experts on Nuclear Aspects of the deal. We thank both the guest for being here. It is worth noting real questions about sanction relief remain. On the same day the un passed the deal, iran wrote a letter to the un saying they would treat use of the snap back as grounds to walk out of the agreement. Again, i think you all know this in about 90 seconds at th ....
