Mr Desraj went viral after his heart-wrenching story was shared on social media by Humans of Bombay . In his interview, Mr Desraj revealed that after the death of both his sons, the responsibility of taking care of the family fell on his ageing shoulders.
Deshraj worked for prolonged hours and paid the school fees for his grandchildren and also sent one of them to Delhi for further studies, but in the process, ended up homeless. Social media users helped the auto driver from Mumbai through donations.

According to the profile, Desraj is the sole breadwinner of his family since the deaths of his two sons, and plies autorickshaw every day to make ends meet and support his wife, daughter-in-law, and his four grandchildren. A media report also claims that he has sold off his house to educate his granddaughter so that she can become a teacher.

In his interview with Humans of Bombay , Mr Desraj revealed that after losing both his sons, it was the responsibility of providing for his grandchildren and daughters-in-law that gave him the strength to keep going. Six years ago, my oldest son disappeared from home; he left for work as usual but never returned, said Mr Desraj, who plies his auto near Khar in Mumbai.
