Want to start with what we expect to hear from the questioning having to do with the fbi on this, and specifically this idea of what is bias and how do you define it. right, because bias is in the eyes of the beholder as they say. but i think you ll see republican try to paint the inspector general as being counter and a checklist guy. so he s going to say, look, kime in, i looked to see if the rules were followed on pred occasion, in opening, i saw sufficient evidence, i checked that box. then you ll hear the republicans say, well, that s really nice, but what we re trying to get to is get in somebody s head about why they opened an investigation. so, the question we all should be asking is, well, how do you get inside agents and lawyers heads and figure that out? you do it through the evidence you have in front of them and doing 100 interviews. so this is going to become a circle of you could have done this better and then the unanswered question, well, how could i have done that ....

Is this idea of spying. barr doubled down on that again yesterday. yeah, he did. in his interview with pete williams. he said that this was a counterintelligence tactic that has not been used in any other presidential election, to have the fbi opening surveillance on a presidential campaign. and he said, yes, i still think it s fine. he stands by that assertion that he made before congress quickly after the mueller report, and he says that he thinks that it was not authorized for their uses of those tools. it s going to be really interesting to see what michael horowitz has to say about that, and i m sure we ll be hearing republicans double down on that as well as whether or not there was bias. right. one thing that i read over and over in the horowitz report is that he rules out the idea of political bias in opening the investigation. he says that everything that they went by to open the investigation was well within their rights, but it s that he doesn t have a good answer fo ....
Bias. what he s going to say is, we found no testimonial or documentary evidence. now, the second point that the attorney general is talking about there is on this fisa question. and that s where the ig report says, that while it found no testimony or documentary evidence and you re going to hear that a lot today from him got you. they also say that they re troubled that they couldn t find a satisfactory explanation for why these mistakes kept happening with the carter page fisa application, because as you point out, the ig says it was flawed at the beginning but that these mistakes sort of mushroomed as they kept reapplying for the carter page thing. and you know, one other thing about this is, it turns out that the carter page fisa application didn t yield very much valuable information. it s the subject of this report. a lot of hand-wringing over it on both sides. but at the end, it didn t really ....
Politically bias, that was based on evidence what we should be saying is, by and large, we have an accident that worked and worked well and worked effectively. should we be concerned when there are management failures? absolutely. and we should be applauding the inspector general s report for doing exactly what inspector generals are supposed to do. they re supposed to point to ways in which you can make your agency work better. and that is exactly what we should be supporting the fbi to do, is find the ways to fix and fill those holes. yes, congress can and should take up questions about whether there are additional protections that citizens should get in this country. that s a longstanding debate. we were having that debate over the patriot act. right. it s not as if this is a suddenly new one. and i think the danger of politicizing law enforcement is really the danger here. and michael horowitz now, just making his way into capitol ....
