Katy Burns: Ruminations on re-emerging
Published: 5/23/2021 10:00:16 AM
June may soon be bustin’ out all over, but a myriad of other things has preceded it with coming out parties.
Tiny bulbs crocus, grape hyacinths and snowdrops were followed by tulips (if critters hadn’t eaten them over the winter) and glorious daffodils, indestructible because they’re essentially inedible.
Our trees are showing almost-grown-up leaves, early day lilies are already putting up stalks, and hosta, at least those that survived the early spring, despite the depredations of marauding beasties who find them delectable, are making great mounds.
Flowering crabs, if on their way out, have been beautiful. Rare woodland peonies are blooming now, and the buds of some standard peonies are already near blooming size.
