To gamble. and there s a lot of things that led to them blowing up their company. we re never going to live in a world where companies aren t stupid, they re going to be stupid and they re going to blow themselves up. but what we have to worry about is stupid companies that blow themselves up and then blow up the economy. you found out with lehman brothe brothers, matthew lee was sounding the alarm bills. it s compensation that makes it rational for them to ignore knowing they ll be gone. when we have these crazy compensation systems, companies will blow themselves up. companies blowing themselves is not a terrible thing. but if a company blows up, it blows the economy up. how do you fix it? how do you untangle it? ....
Key at all. i think we need a comprehensive package overall where we treat teachers like the professionals they are. we have to really good evaluation systems that are rigorous and fair and transparent. we also need to have compensation systems that recognize the fact that we have great performers who need to be rewarded accordingly. we also need policies in place that ensure that we don t give teachers a job for life regardless of performance in such a way that ineffective teachers remain in the classroom with children. it s a comprehensive set of human capital policies that are going to push the envelope forward both in florida and in states across the country. but as you know, a great deal of concern has been expressed and charter schools, for example, are nonunionized with all the flexibility and local area controls that you yourself promote. yet, they only outperform public schools 17% of the time, and actually do significantly worse in 37% of cases. so is it a mistake to simply ....
