Grand Rapids wins $150,000 to advance housing affordability - Grand Rapids Business Journal

The city of Grand Rapids was one of eight recipients of the 2021 CommunityWINS grant program, a joint effort by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Wells Fargo to advance housing affordability solutions in local communities.
The grants, totaling $1 million, recognize outstanding mayoral-nominated initiatives that assist their city in reducing the cost burden of housing and increase access to safe, affordable places to live.
Each nonprofit will receive funding aimed at assisting cities with the opportunity to invest, strengthen and address housing affordability issues in municipalities across the U.S.
In recognition of its partnership with Community Rebuilders, the city will receive $150,000 to support Community Rebuilder’s innovative G.R.A.C.E. Smart Homes project. GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â The City of Grand Rapids has received a $150,000 grant to help bring more affordable housing to the community, according to a news release Monday.

Mercantile Bank of Michigan is donating $100,000 to several organizations across the state to help communities that are battling food insecurity and homelessness.
“During this season of giving, we wanted to ensure that the financial assistance we provide reaches across all of the communities we serve, especially amid the amplified effects of the pandemic,” said Robert Kaminski Jr., CEO of Mercantile Bank of Michigan. “As we operate in these communities daily, we know that among the biggest critical needs across our state are food, shelter and financial stability, and many people are struggling to receive these basic human needs. Community Rebuilders helps 36 Grand Rapidians find homes - Grand Rapids Business Journal

A nonprofit working to end homelessness has put 36 individuals on the path to long-term housing with 24 of those already housed temporarily.
Grand Rapids-based Community Rebuilders said last week that many people without housing staying in the Rosa Parks Circle and Monroe Center area have a promising new year ahead, thanks to the Community Rebuilders Geographically Targeted Housing Outreach initiative (GTHO), which the Business Journal reported on in October.
Of 48 people so far identified by GTHO from an initial goal of rehousing 30 adults and 30 youths, 36 have service plans underway and are working with Community Rebuilders to secure long-term homes. Two dozen already have moved into temporary housing where their basic needs can be met with more scheduled to move in the coming weeks. ....
