Political positions can be prone to political posturing and partisan nonsense. Local county officials are no exception. Government positions were not created for political gamesmanship and shouldn’t be treated as such. A county commissioner is not effective to their community because of their party or the red meat they throw. They make a difference in their community when the landfill works properly, qualified people are appointed to decisionmaking boards, meetings have productive outcomes and transparency is at the forefront of their work. Competency is the name of the game in local politics, not party.
Between the time Ada County Commissioners announced that they were nominating Raul Labrador to the Central District Health Board and when they confirmed the nomination, commissioners received over 3,200 emails.
KTVB requested all emails sent to the commissioners between Jan. 13, when they announced Labrador s nomination, and Jan. 18 when the commissioners interviewed Dr. Sky Blue, a local doctor and epidemiologist. The Central District Health Board voted 2-1 to nominate Labrador to the vacant seat for Ada County. On Friday, over 500 emails were released to KTVB.
County commissioners nominate someone for their county seats on the health board and commissioners from the rest of the district vote to appoint them. Commissioners voted 9-3 to approve Labrador s nomination.
A special prosecutor will review if Ada County commissioners violated open meeting laws before appointing former U.S. Congressman Raúl Labrador to the Central District Health board.

My office is typically responsible for reviewing cases involving allegations of open meeting violations. However, when those allegations involve my clients, the Ada County Commissioners, I have a conflict disqualifying me from reviewing the matter, Bennetts said in a statement.
Commissioner Kendra Kenyon raised the concern of a possible violation during Tuesday s Board of Commissioners meeting. Kenyon said she was concerned by the apparent out-of-meeting discussions between Beck and Davidson about placing Labrador onto the CDH board.
