The Ukrainian Health Ministry has signed a contract for the supply of China s Sinovac Biotech COVID-19 vaccine to Ukraine.
The ministry has been negotiating with Sinovac since September, according to the president s press service.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the contract had been signed with an experienced vaccine manufacturer.
The main thing is that we have carried out a very active multi-month negotiation work and have received concrete results. We will start a large-scale state-run vaccination program soon. Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers Oleh Nemchynov says Ukraine will get 16 million doses of a vaccine as part of COVAX, the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access Facility.
Not 8 million [as reported earlier], but 16 million doses of the vaccine. Eight million is the number of doses that need to be injected twice for 4 million citizens. Accordingly, 16 million will be for 8 million citizens. This is what Ukraine will get under COVAX, he told the Dom TV channel.

Ukraine could receive an additional 8 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine for free as part of the COVAX Facility, in addition to the already guaranteed 8 million. Thus, the total number of doses to be provided could reach 16 million.
This was announced by Ukraine s Chief Medical Officer Viktor Liashko in an interview for Radio NV.
He specified that an additional 8 million doses are still a potential opportunity.
