County per capita tax eliminiated in Snyder County | News, Sports, Jobs

MIDDLEBURG The Snyder County Commissioners announced they have decided to eliminate the county per capita tax.
“It’s not often we get the opportunity to eliminate a tax,” Commissioner Joe Kantz said. “Financially, this past year was very challenging, but after reviewing the net proceeds of this nuisance tax, the commissioners had a goal to eliminate it and with the help or our row officers and department heads, we were able to do it.”
“It took a team effort to get to the point where we could actually afford to do this but the taxpayers had a difficult year last year and we wanted to do everything we could to try and ease the tax burden on our county residents,” Commisioner Adam Ewig said. ....

MCCLURE Along U.S. 522, emergency crews and others lined the road in McClure, Beavertown and Middleburg Wednesday evening.
They were there to honor one of their own.
Tony Jordan, longtime chief of police in Middleburg, died Wednesday at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital, where he had been a patient in treatment for COVID-19.
In addition to Middleburg, where Jordan served for over three decades, he was the chief of police in McClure and Beavertown boroughs, which contracted with JordanÃs force for service. The communities he served turned out in solidarity as he was transported back to the Snyder County seat. ....
