Parliament gave the green light to redirect EU regional and asylum funding to EU countries sheltering people fleeing from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, on Thursday.
Parliament is now ready to negotiate with Council the details of the fund to help EU countries to counter the adverse consequences of the UK’s withdrawal.

Whilst approving the new aid, MEPs called on the Commission to simplify the EU Solidarity Fund to ensure it can respond to climate change and more frequent natural disasters.
On Tuesday, Parliament agreed to mobilise â¬397.5 million from the European Union Solidarity Fund (EUSF) to help 17 member states and three accession countries to safeguard public health in fighting COVID-19. The beneficiaries are: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Albania, Montenegro and Serbia.
