Colorado resumes use of Johnson & Johnson vaccine to help end the pandemic

The Colorado State Emergency Operations Center issued a news release Friday, April 23 announcing providers should resume using the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The decision is based on updated guidance from the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Colorado Joint Vaccine Task Force are alerting providers they can proceed with using the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine immediately, the release said.
“We are happy to have this highly effective, one-dose vaccine back as an option for Coloradans,” Dr. Eric France, CDPHE chief medical officer, said in the release. “We appreciate the caution the CDC and FDA took to evaluate the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and are ready to ramp back up distribution as quickly as possible.” ....

BOULDER, Colo. — Days after the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) said thousands vaccinated at a Colorado Springs clinic should get revaccinated, some of those impacted are concerned for potential implications of receiving additional doses.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Colorado Joint Vaccine Task Force recently paused the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. 
The interruption was due to reports of blood clots and low platelets in six Johnson & Johnson vaccine recipients in the United States. The exact cause of the condition and whether it is related to the vaccine  is unknown.
Almost 7 million people have received the one-dose vaccine in the United States so far.
Chaffee County Public Health Director Andrea Carlstrom said, “CCPH and all county COVID-19 providers will follow the state’s requirement that we pause vaccination plans for distributing J&J until further notice.  ....
